TUI NA
WHAT IS TUI NA?
Tui Na is a 2000 year old Chinese hands-on body treatment that is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine alongside acupuncture and herbal prescriptions.
Tui Na is a complete healing system on its own that uses Chinese principles in an effort to establish harmonious flow of Qi throughout the body to lead to improved health. Tui Na offers a wide range of benefits, both physiological and psychological. Tui Na may promote well-being and the body's ability to heal itself.
Tui Na practitioners treat conditions that in western medicine would be treated by osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists or medication.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
As Tui Na has a holistic approach characterised by the treatment of the person as a whole, considering mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of an illness, a thorough background consultation is conducted by the practitioner. Some questions might not seem relevant to you, but greatly aid the practitioner with their initial diagnosis and treatment plan.
The practitioner will further their diagnosis by monitoring your pulse and making observations of your tongue.
Despite similarities when compared to other forms of massage, the intent of Tui Na is to be medically therapeutic and not simply for relaxation. Not dissimilar to other body therapies, you may feel tender after your treatment. This is normal, but the overarching benefits of the treatment far outweigh any short-lived tenderness.
The practitioner may recommend techniques such as cupping, guasha or moxibustion which are techniques that can enhance your treatment; however, these options will be discussed with you prior to their administration.
